The Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute

Partner short name: MARINTEK

Brief description

The Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (MARINTEK) has more than 30 years of experience from testing in the Ocean Basin Laboratory, which has contributed to a comprehensive and unique expertise and knowledge about hydrodynamic loads and responses of floating and bottom fixed marine structures.

Empirical knowledge from physical model testing combined with a strong theoretical knowledge has led to the development of analysis methods and state-of-the-art simulations tools that are used by engineering and operating companies worldwide.

An important MARINTEK's competence area is also simulating slender structures' dynamics (such as power cables) and structural mechanics of marine systems, both in terms of numerical calculations and full scale structural testing.

Key Facilities and Infrastructure

MARINTEK operates also a towing tank and cavitation tunnel which are advanced model test facilities for testing of ships and propellers. They have been applied for testing of i.a. installation- and maintenance vessels for offshore wind turbines.
