The National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) is a technology centre, specialised in applied research and in the development and promotion of renewable energies. It has excellent qualifications and recognised national and international prestige.

The Foundation started its activity in 2002 and its Board of Trustees is comprised of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Ciemat, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and the Government of Navarra.

It currently provides services and performs research work in 6 areas (~200 people): Wind, Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic, Biomass, Energy in Buildings and Renewable Energy Grid Integration.

CENER has cutting-edge technological infrastructures, with the most modern laboratories and facilities in the world. The Wind Turbine Test Laboratory, the Experimental Wind Farm, the 2nd Generation Biofuel Centre and a Microgrid deserve a special mention.

CENER’s headquarters are located in Sarriguren, Navarra, although it also has facilities and offices in other locations of Spain.

CENER focuses its work around three areas and its activity covers the entire energy generation process using renewable resources:

• Development of technology through R&D&I projects, promoting the generation, acquisition and dissemination of knowledge for the industrial sector.
• Highly skilled technical assistance and services for component testing and certification.
• Carry out reports as well as technical and economic feasibility studies.

Role In MareWint

Second level partner which main task is to held the secondment of the ESR2 for validating part of the research work that would be performing at Liverpool University CFD group as well as guiding the student in the wind turbine world. CENER also will be involved in other tasks like participating in the Supervisory Board and probably hosting a lecture serie meeting within the project.
